I see no appeal in having a very specific plan as an artist. Who fucking cares if people don’t get it or don’t like it? I’d rather trust myself, to like what I’ve done and stick to my guns than make music I don’t like, wear clothes that don’t suit me and flutter between genres because I’m scared I won’t be relevant if I pass my “sell by” date..
If it’s raining, you will most likely find French photographer and artist on tumblr, Manuel Plantin outside. Of Strasbourg France, he has a talent for transforming reflections into photographs that resemble paintings. Coincidentally, he isn’t a fan of the rain, but it suits his hobby well and provides him with the environment necessary to create amazing art. That being said, if it’s raining expect to see Manuel outside with his camera in tow.
I’ve been gone for a bit. My apologies, but I have been busy, busy, busy! My band, The New Love Express, has now released our second recording. “A Room At The Inn” is our 2013 Christmas EP and features five songs. I will post links to all our YouTube goodness soon. For now, you’ll have to make do with some photos from our debut album, “The New Love Express.”
Who would have thought it? In the last two years, I’ve had the great fortune to record with some of the most generous and talented people, solidify friendships in all manner of places, edit the 50th Anniversary Edition of PRAIRIE MARGINS, BGSU’s Undergraduate Literary Magazine, see my daughter get into the school of her dreams, and be only one class away from my BFA in Creative Writing. I have much to be thankful for this holiday season. <3
Wanna be a writer? Find a different way to say “I’m going to the store” every single time you say it. Come up with nicknames for all of your friends. Ask people questions, welcome conversation from an outside perspective, do not drop a topic until you are satisfied. For every different room in which you find yourself on every single day, point out at least one thing that is there, but shouldn’t be there, and why it shouldn’t be there. Then take maybe ten minutes a week to get it down on the page. Writing only takes a long time when the only time you think about writing is when you are writing.
